10 Best Malls in Kolkata — Ranked Honestly (With What's Actually Worth Going For)

Not all malls are equal. Here's the real ranking of Kolkata's best shopping malls — which ones have the best food courts, which to avoid on weekends, and what each is actually good for.

Kolkata’s mall scene has grown up. From the early South City days to the current crop of New Town glass towers, the city now has enough options that picking the right one for your purpose actually matters.

Here’s the honest ranking — not by size, but by what each mall is actually good for.

1. South City Mall (Prince Anwar Shah Road)

Best for: Everything — it’s the most complete mall in the city Crowd level on weekends: Very high Parking: Basement, usually manageable

Still the gold standard. The food court on the top floor is the best in any Kolkata mall — the spread, the seating, the cleanliness. The brand mix hits the right range without being too premium or too low-end. The multiplex (INOX) is the best mall cinema experience in South Kolkata.

Go for: Full day outing, food court lunch, movies, mainstream brands Skip if: You hate crowds on Saturday afternoon — it gets very full

2. Quest Mall (Syed Amir Ali Avenue, Park Circus)

Best for: Premium brands, better-than-average food options, less chaos Crowd level on weekends: Moderate-high Parking: Multi-level, usually fine

Quest is for when you want a slightly quieter, more curated experience. The brand selection skews more premium — Zara, H&M, Marks & Spencer. The food options are better than average (the standalone restaurants within the mall are worth exploring, not just the food court). The architecture is the most attractive of any Kolkata mall.

Go for: Shopping for specific brands, weekday lunch, less-crowded weekend alternative to South City Best kept secret: The L-shaped upper level is significantly less crowded than the main atrium

3. City Centre 2 (New Town, Action Area II)

Best for: New Town residents, weekend entertainment, the waterfront Crowd level on weekends: High Parking: Abundant — it’s New Town

The most entertainment-forward mall in the city. The outdoor spaces and the lake-adjacent sections make it feel less claustrophobic than other malls. The food options have improved significantly. Multiplex is good.

Go for: If you’re in New Town, this is your mall. The outdoor events area hosts some genuinely interesting events. Watch for: Mall events listed on their social media — they run concerts and pop-ups fairly regularly

4. Acropolis Mall (Kasba)

Best for: South Kolkata residents, uncrowded weekday shopping, solid food court Crowd level on weekends: Moderate Parking: Generally fine

Acropolis punches above its weight. The food court is well-maintained, the brand selection is solid for everyday shopping, and it’s significantly less crowded than South City while being in a comparable location. The roof has some outdoor seating that rarely gets used.

Go for: A quick shopping trip without the South City crowds

5. Mani Square (EM Bypass)

Best for: Size, variety, the INOX Laser screen Crowd level on weekends: High Parking: Large, but the EM Bypass approach can be slow

One of the largest malls in eastern India by floor area. The sheer scale means it has everything, but navigation takes practice. The INOX screen here is one of the best in the city for movies. The food court is large but inconsistent.

Go for: Movies on a good screen, variety shopping, if you live near EM Bypass Skip: If you need to be somewhere else in 2 hours — it’s easy to lose time here

6. Metropolis Mall (Hiland Park, Kasba)

Best for: Hypermarket + quick shopping, South Kolkata convenience Crowd level: Moderate Parking: Good

Strong on the hypermarket and everyday shopping side. Not a destination mall, but excellent for a purposeful trip. The Big Bazaar anchor is one of the better-stocked in the city.

7. City Centre 1 (Salt Lake, Sector 5)

Best for: IT sector workers, weekday lunch, the Salt Lake crowd Crowd level: Moderate weekdays, high weekends Parking: Challenging on weekends

The original City Centre, now showing its age slightly compared to CC2. But the location in the middle of the IT sector means the weekday food scene is active and the restaurants here have to be decent to survive the competition for office lunch money. Good for a weekday visit.

8. Elante Mall equivalent — The Galleria (Newtown)

Best for: New premium brands, quieter alternative to CC2 Crowd level: Low-moderate Parking: Excellent

Newer and still building its tenant mix. Some excellent anchor stores already. Worth watching as it fills up — the infrastructure is very good.

9. 22 Camac Street (Camac Street)

Best for: High street shopping and dining in a single location Crowd level: Moderate Parking: Limited — plan ahead

Not technically a mall but functions like one. The high-street adjacent location means the restaurant options are some of the best in any shopping cluster in the city — you’re drawing from the Park Street / Camac Street dining ecosystem.

10. Avani Riverside Mall (Howrah)

Best for: Howrah and west side residents, riverside views Crowd level: Moderate Parking: Good

Underrated because of its Howrah address. The mall itself is well-maintained and the Ganga-adjacent location gives it a character the city-side malls lack. If you’re willing to cross the bridge, it’s worth it.
