About KolkataKhoj
Kolkata has a problem. Every "best of" list is the same 12 restaurants. Every travel blog starts with the Howrah Bridge and ends with a Durga Puja pandal. The actual city — the one people live in — never quite makes it onto the internet.
KolkataKhoj exists to fix that.
Who's writing this
I'm a Kolkata local. I grew up here, I live here now, and I have the kind of specific, opinionated knowledge that only comes from years of wandering — the milk tea stall in Shyambazar that opens at 5am and is inexplicably perfect, the rooftop in Kumartuli with a Ganga view that nobody talks about, the cabin restaurant in Gariahat where the mustard fish hasn't changed since 1973.
I'm not a professional travel writer. No one is paying me to say a place is good — if it's here, I liked it.
What this site is (and isn't)
This is: A genuinely local guide. Para-level coverage. Honest opinions. Real transport directions (not just "take a cab"). Content I'd actually send a friend.
This is not: A comprehensive city guide. I'm not trying to index every restaurant in Kolkata. I'm writing about the places I'd personally recommend, with the kind of detail that's actually useful.
The name
খোঁজ (khōñj) means "search" or "quest" in Bengali. KolkataKhoj is a search for the real city — the one that takes a little looking.
A note on monetization
This site runs Google AdSense ads to cover hosting costs and keep the lights on. The ads are clearly ads. They don't influence what I write. If I wouldn't tell a friend about a place, it's not going on this site.
